I had this idea to write reviews of the various animes I've seen. I've yet to find an anime "top 100" list that properly represents my opinion. So creating one is the next best thing.

I evaluate based on the following criteria:

  • Plot: is the story original and appealing, or is it old, overdone, and a bore? Does it even have a plot? Does it have one long plot, or several smaller ones?

  • Characters: do the characters spring to life, or are they boring? Are they unique, moving, and dynamic, or the same old? Do they change and develop through the course of the series, or are they predictable and boring after two episodes?

  • Visual: is the art visually appealing? Does the animation and art match the plot and characters? Are the backgrounds breathtaking, or could you do better on an etch-a-sketch?

  • Audio: Ever so important to me, how is the soundtrack? Are the songs catchy and fitting? Does the voice talent fit the characters? How are the sound effects?

  • First Impressions: Many an anime aren't watched because the first episode wasn't good. Did the anime grip you from the first episode, or did you turn it off halfway through? Did the first episode trick you into thinking it was something else?

  • Last Impressions: Nothing's worse than watching many hours of anime, to get to the final episode, and discover there is no ending, or worse, an ending that makes no sense. A post-mortem evaluation for the series.

  • Ovrerall: overall, how was it?
